About Everett School

Since 1990, Everett School has brought performing arts classes, mentorship, and apprenticeship opportunities to Providence’s young people who lack access to high quality after school engagement. The program seeks to provide enriching after school arts education that encourages creativity, play and personal sharing as a road to relieving trauma, developing emotional and behavioral health and seeing success in our talented young people through long-term investment. Classes in hip-hop dance, improv comedy, freestyle dance and polynesian dance are delivered each week. Everett teaching artists serve as mentors in and outside of classes and take on advanced students as apprentices, teaching professional level skills to new generations of young people.

Everett School is designed to support the long-term development of their students, a population of young people of color that disproportionately falls into a gap of not being in school and not working after high-school. Everett brings important training, responsibility, and work into their lives, helping these young people develop into meaningfully employed professionals with an understanding of their worth and the needs of their communities. All ten of Everett’s current teaching artists are former students of Everett school. They demonstrate the fruits of committing to the development of talented young people and bring a unique, impactful understanding to their student/teacher relationships through their similar lived experiences.
