Everett presents Open Stage, a monthly event for young performers featuring house dance troupe Case Closed! and hosted by Everett’s Sokeo Ros & Bianca Bevilacqua. Open Stage happens on the first Friday of each month from 8 to 9:30 p.m., immediately following the Friday Night Live comedy show at 7 p.m.
The aim is to give local youth performers a forum to show their talents in front of a live audience. Each show will feature a different headliner and local hip hop theater troupe Case Closed! Audience members will have the opportunity to sign up for a 5-minute performance slot before each show.
I am a creator. I was created by two veterans of a Jim Crow Florida. My mother was educated by all black institutions, and then became the only black teacher in an all white rural school during integration. I grew up inside of a redline box. When I go back there, I see the signs commemorating the historic blackness of the neighborhood. I wrote my first rap and dreamed my first dreams in this context. Therefore, my satire is rooted in the rhythms of cicadas and crickets. I am driven by ideas. My passion belongs to creation. Words are the most economical medium. One can create a universe with words and never spend a penny. At the conception of every creation is a thought. I think in universes and like every poet I write with worlds.

The Funk Underground
The Funk lives in unexpected places. Sometimes it doesn’t see the light. Luckily our basement has windows. We spend our time trying to represent the realness and beauty that is Hip Hop. We get down, and you get a good time. Coming out of a long collaboration between SydeSho, Eric Axelman, Kat Joelle, Kevin Rodriguez, Moises Rogers, Taki Brano & KelKeyz, the Funk Underground brings the funk from Providence, Rhode Island, to wherever it’s most needed.
